Bonnie Zachmeyer Hawkins
November 24, 1943 - August 20, 2019

Bonnie Zachmeyer Hawkins, 75, of Lowell, died Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington. She was born November 24, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant to Herbert L. and Frances Lorine Westfall Hahn. She married John Zachmeyer, Sr.; he died in 1993. She then married Frank Hawkins who also preceded her in death.
Bonnie went to Lowell and Denmark grade schools and High School in New London. She attended Lowell Church. For more than 30 years, she worked at Motorola, later retiring from Celestica. She also worked many years at New London School cafeteria. Bonnie enjoyed taking care of her family, traveling, cruises, watching birds, doing yardwork and caring for her flowers.
Survivors include her sons, John (Lori) Zachmeyer of Burlington and Tom Zachmeyer of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Dawn (Luke) Towne, Isaac (Samantha) Zachmeyer, and Jacob (Yasmine) Zachmeyer; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dixie (Steve) Burkhart of Mt. Pleasant and Cheryl Ullrich of West Point; brother, Jerry Hahn of Burlington; and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathanial Zachmeyer.
The memorial service for Mrs. Hawkins will be 11:00 am, Saturday at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with the family greeting friends from 6 - 8 pm. Cremation has been accorded and inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial has been established. "In all the years of growing up around Aunt Bonnie, I never heard her say a cross word to anyone, not even all us kids who were running around making noise. She was a terrific aunt and such a loving person. I will miss her very much."
