Kerry Joe Miller, 61, of New London, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his residence.
Kerry was born on August 31, 1957 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Floyd William and Janet Lea Finke Miller. He married Tamara Kay Griest on May 7, 1994 in Nashua, Iowa. She died August 5, 2001. He was a 1975 graduate of New London High School and was a heavy equipment operator at the Des Moines County Regional Landfill, retiring in 2017.
He was an avid arrowhead and mushroom hunter and also enjoyed camping and golfing, and riding his Harley. He was an exceptional athlete in high school, excelling in football, swimming and wrestling. He was also Homecoming King.
Kerry is survived by his mother, Janet Simmons (Rand Beattie) of New London; his significant other, Deb Thornton Blevins of New London; Deb's children that he loved as his own, Thomas (Blythe) Leitch of Davenport, Amy Leitch of Marengo and Lindsey (Matt) Richardson of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Madison, Madelynn, Alyvia, and Christopher; brother, Ethan (Jenna) Miller of Danville; sisters, Connie Swartzendruber and Maggie (Philip Walsh) Miller of New London; stepmother, Rhonda (David) Mixon of New London; nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, and brother, Craig.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 28 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor David Mixon will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday, August 27 at the Chapel with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials have been established to the Henry County Rescue Unit and the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be left at elliottfuneralchapel.com
