In loving memory of

Alberta Barbara McGinley
June 25, 1909 - April 2, 2011

Alberta Barbara McGinley died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 2:20 a.m. in DePere Wisconsin. She was born on June 25, 1909 to Anton and Frances (Pokorny) Renish in Antigo, Wisconsin. She grew up in Antigo and attended school until her junior year in High School when she left school to help earn money for the family. She made many close friends that enjoyed her company. She met Bernard McGinley from Antigo; they fell in love and married in July of 1931. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where their three children were born. Shortly after their third child was born, they decided to go back to Antigo to be with their families. It was the height of the Great Depression and times were difficult, but they had their love and a strong work ethic that kept them going.

Alberta had a close place for the Lord in her heart. In the early years, she helped Bernard in the furniture store that he started. They worked side-by-side for many years getting the new business established. In addition to that, she was an excellent mother, cook, baker, and seamstress. As her home responsibilities lessened, she was able to be involved with her church and assisted in many of the activities the St. Hyacinth Catholic Church's ladies group and rosary society held. She also loved working as a volunteer at C.A.R., which was a resale store in Antigo. Over the years, she gifted many items of need to St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church including velvet drapes, a new organ, and many other items. She was proud of her church and loved music.

She is survived by her three children: Dr. Carole McGinley Edland (Dr. Robert), Dennis McGinley (Judith) and Ellen McGinley Dowd. She has 18 grandchildren. Christopher Edland (Caroline), Anne Edland Doughty, David Edland (Nadene), Christina Edland Coste (Jean-Philippe), Kathryn McGinley, Bradley McGinley (Mary Pat), Julie McGinley McKibbins (Jay), Lori McGinley Casey (Robert), Colleen McGinley Scanlan (Jeff), Mary Dowd Demas (Gary), Catherine Dowd Wright (Aaron), Margaret Dowd, Jane Dowd Osborn, Michael Dowd (Wendy), Patrick Dowd (Suzi), Anne Dowd Chard (Scott), Thomas Dowd (Tonya), and John Dowd (Greta). She is also survived by 30 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband Bernard, Brother Edward Renish, Sister-in-law Mabel Renish, great grandson Thomas Patrick D'Arcangelo, and great granddaughter Devyn Doughty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 5, 2011 at St. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church, 819 3rd Ave, Antigo Wisconsin 54409. Father James Baraniak, O.Praem will officiate with the entombment at the Queen of Peace Mausoleum in Antigo. Friends and family may call at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

"Mom and Grandmother is with the Lord
And united once more with her beloved husband Bernie.
Mom, you were a shining example of what lived-love is and
You didn't let the hard times get you down.
Your spirit and love inspired everyone you met,
You lived a full life and passed on your joy to all.
Gradually, your body got tired and it could not keep up with your spirit
So we release you to join all our loved ones in Heaven.
We will all be together once more when the Lord says the time is right."
