Mary Ann McCarthy
November 4, 1921 - April 9, 2011

Mary Ann McCarthy, of Elcho, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at her home under the care of her family . She was 89 years old. She was born on November 4, 1921 in Milwaukee a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Glocka) Mikulec. She married Edward McCarthy on November 3, 1962 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1978.

In 1940 she graduated from Girl's Tech High School in Milwaukee. She worked at Nunn Bush and Delco Electronics in Milwaukee before moving to Pelican Lake in 1967.

She was an owner and operator of McCarthy's Resort on Pelican Lake from 1967-1975 and was a member of Slovak Catholic Sokol.

She enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an avid sports fan, especially for the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include two daughters, Colleen (Scott) Ruhland, Elcho and Shirley (David) Leonard, Hartford; a son, Timothy (Chong) McCarthy, Oak Harbor, WA; six grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Dobbs, Racine, Mike (Michelle) Leonard, Merton, Sue (Dave) Hartman, Cedarburg and Shannon, Cory and Shelby Ruhland, Elcho; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Jeremy Dobbs, Alex, Megan and Ryan Leonard and Teresa and Amanda Hartman; two sisters, Emily Pinkowski, Hartford and Ann Filo, Hartford; and a brother, Frank (Joan) Mikulec, Mequon.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Susan McCarthy; and two brothers-in-law, Steve Filo and Erwin "Pinky" Pinkowski.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Pelican Lake with Rev. John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.
