George Bartlett
November 8, 1920 - February 27, 2011

George W. Bartlett, age 90, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on November 8, 1920 to Dr. Frank Herbert and Lucy Weeks Bartlett. The Bartletts moved to Muskegon when George was a young child. George had been a resident in the Muskegon area following that move and was a part-time resident of Aspen, Colorado from 1974 to 2008. As a decorated and honored United States Marine Corps Captain, George was very proud to have served his country as a fighter pilot during World War II, flying in the South Pacific and Philippines. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1939. He entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with the Class of 1943 and completed his studies, after the interruption for his war service, with a B.S. degree in Management in 1947. He married Jeanne L. Larsen, on September 11, 1948 and they shared 61 wonderful years of life together. George was President of the Neway Division of Lear Siegler, Inc. until his retirement. He served on the Board of Directors for First of America Bank Corporation, General Telephone Co., Hackley Hospital and numerous other companies in the Muskegon area. He was Chairman of the Board of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County from 1983 to 1986, the longest standing member and a past President of the Muskegon Country Club and was involved in numerous other community organizations. In addition to spending time with friends and family, his passions included sailing the Great Lakes and skiing in Aspen.

SURVIVORS

George is survived by his brother, Dr. William H. Bartlett (Phyllis) of Madison, Wisconsin; his son, Bruce L. Bartlett (Elena) of Holmdel, New Jersey; and his daughters, Laura B. Johnson of Centennial, Colorado and Sara B. Fink (Jeffrey) of Park City, Utah. Also among George's survivors are his eight grandchildren: Maegan M. Bartlett, Spencer L. Bartlett, Matthew E. Bartlett, Erik B. Johnson, Emily J. Johnson, George R. Johnson, Patrick B. Fink and Nathaniel D. Fink and his step-granddaughter, Kim Van Den Berg. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his brother, Dr. Richard J. Bartlett and his son-in-law Robert R. Johnson.

The family will be holding a private service.
