Nona Carrie Taylor was born on April 11, 1915, in Dale Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late George William and Dora Anna (Miller) Haworth. She was baptized at an early age and later confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. She received her education in the Windom Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1935.
On June 5, 1940, Nona was united in marriage to Sherman Taylor at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. This union was blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Barbara and Bonnie. After marriage, Nona and Sherman lived in Windom until 1951 when they moved to a farm by Jeffers, Minnesota. Besides being a devoted mother, Nona helped Sherman with the farming and milking. Nona also worked outside of the home at several different businesses through the years which included, Butterfield Foods, Fingerhut, Ostenson's Variety as a clerk, REA as their bookkeeper from January of 1969 to June of 1982 and Co-op Oil in Jeffers. In 1980, Nona and Sherman moved into Jeffers. Sherman passed away on October 6, 1992. After his death, Nona remained in Jeffers until becoming a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Society in Windom. On Wednesday, December 26, 2007, Nona was taken to the Windom Area Hospital and it was there that she passed away on Thursday morning, December 27, 2007, at the age of 92!!
Nona was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Jeffers where she was church treasurer for twelve years. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Dale Home Society. Nona will be remembered for many things in life including how she sewed all of the girls? special occasion dresses; her love of gardening, her house plants and outdoor flowers. When she was unable to get around very well she started crocheting, and made doilies, afghans, bells, hats and vase holders for the family along with crocheting an American flag for each daughter.
Nona is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Junker and her husband, Bill, of Jeffers; Barbara Torkelson and her husband, Jerry, of Windom; Bonnie Hanish and her husband, Russ, of Jeffers; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
Nona is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sherman Taylor; one infant brother; and one sister, Edna Haworth.
