Donald Lee Daunt of Twin Lake was born February 5, 1927 to Signa (Anderson) and Leland Daunt in Ludington, Michigan, and passed away on July 31, 2008. He served in the military during World War II with the 252nd Engineer Construction Battalion and received his discharge as a Corporal T5 in Berlin, Germany. He then entered the special services division of the European Command Exchange as a civilian for the United States Government, managing the Anchor Service Club at Lake Wannasse, Berlin, the American golf course, and the CIC snack bar inside the compound. He was a very patriotic man and served in the honor guard for the Holton American Legion Post 397 until health prevented him from doing so. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Many times, when he saw a need, he helped others without thought of recognition. Donald retired from Construction Aggregates where he worked as an operating engineer and took considerable pride in a project he worked on for the Corp of Engineers at Bay City, Michigan. On September 1, 1950 he married the former Donna Rolison and together they had three children. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his children; Signa Rene' (Martin) Stewart of Anderson, SC, Randy L. (Debra) Daunt of Holton, and Rhonda K. (Stephen) Smith of Muskegon; ten grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Albright, Gregory (Krista) Rupar, Scott L. Daunt, Matthew Henry, Jennifer Henry, Susan (Matthew) Jones, William (Janice) Stewart, Kim (Tracy) Daniels, Scott Smith, and Stephanie Smith; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition he is survived by his brother Herbert A. (Louise) Daunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Signa Daunt, brother Lawrence and sister Lorraine Daunt and granddaughter Amanda Mae Daunt. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 324, and the American Legion Post #397. Donald was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church 1206 Whitehall Road, in North Muskegon, where funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Doug Ogden officating.
