Some people lead a successful life even though they have a difficult beginning. Patricia Mazade was one of those people. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked hard to raise and support her family. She was a devoted friend to many. She was a passionate about bowling, baseball and passionate about her family.
Patricia Anne was born in Detroit on May 15, 1929. At the time Patricia was born, the stock market crash was impending and the Great Depression would last through most of her early years. This was a difficult time for Patricia, something she didnt like to talk about. Her parents were unable to care for her and because of this Patricia was sent to live on a farm with a foster family. She lived on a farm in Woodville, Michigan, near Big Rapids and had to help out with the chores, something she didnt care for, especially the cows and the turkeys. Later she moved to Muskegon so she could attend Muskegon Heights High School there. One day, while roller skating at the Rollarena she met a young man named Robert Lubert. They fell in love and became husband and wife.
Patricia and Robert started their married life in Muskegon Heights, later moving to Fruitport. Patricia found work at GTE as a switchboard operator. Patricia and Robert also started their family at this time with the birth of Kathryn in 1948, Lynn in 1949 and their only son Michael in 1951. Their marriage ended after twelve years and for several years Patricia worked hard as a single mom to make ends meet. Luckily, Patricia had a second chance at love. She met a wonderful man named Robert Mazade at the Little Brown Jug in Fruitport. Robert tended bar there and made pizzas when he was laid off from his regular job at Continental Motors. Robert and Patricia fell in love and were united in marriage on December 22, 1962.
Robert and Patricia started their married life on Hulka Street in Cloverville where they bought a house. Patricia joined Robert at Continental Motors working first at the switchboard, then as secretary, and finally moving up to purchasing. At this time, Patricia and Robert had their daughter, Michele in 1965, completing the family of six. The children remember fun family times at Fricanos in Grand Haven for Friday night pizza. They also remember family fun centered around bowling; playing in the playroom at Northway Lanes while mom bowled. There were also exciting trips around the country for bowling tournaments. Pat was proud of her many hard-earned trophies.
When Patricia was not working or caring for the children, she and Robert could be found socializing with friends. They were members of the Eagles and Pat was a member of the Eagle Womens Auxiliary. She and Robert also enjoyed dining with friends from the Credit Union where Robert was a board member. Pat and Robert seemed to know everyone when they went out!
In her spare time Pat liked to sew and crochet. She also made special annual trips around Christmas time to shop and see the sights in Chicago. She was a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan who loved watching the games on T.V. In the summer, many happy hours were spent at Wolf Lake, near Baldwin, where the family kept a trailer. The family still reminisces about the relaxing times that they enjoyed for twelve wonderful years.
Unfortunately, the time that Patricia and Robert had together came to an end in 1993 when Robert unexpectedly died from a heart attack. Patricia was devastated after Roberts death. She and Robert had been close and she found it hard to go on without him. The rest of the family rallied around her and helped her pull through this difficult time. She loved spending holidays at Micheles house and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of all their activities and accomplishments.
When Patricia was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2006 the family rallied around her again and did everything they could to keep the symptoms at bay. Patricia, who had always cared about her appearance, still went to the beauty parlor every week to get her hair and nails done. She still wanted to look her best! Patricia, who had been an avid bowler all her life, belonging to many leagues, bowled her last game the day before she had a stroke.
Patricia will be remembered for her qualities of courage and devotion, as someone who overcame a difficult childhood to make a success of her life. Her passionate care of her husband and children and her devotion to her friends will be the mark she leaves behind.
