McNally, William Francis

William was born January 28, 1929 in Chicago, IL and died at home on April 22, 2007 in Grand Haven. Mr. McNally formerly was a litigation partner in Muskegon, handling major products liability and commercial litigation. After earning a B.A. in English from Loyola University, he attended U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952-55. He married his sweetheart Joan Patricia Riley ("Pat") in 1952. Following service for his country, he and Pat returned to Chicago, while working full time to support his family, he attended law school at night at DePaul University and graduated near the top of his class and earning a Juris Doctor in 1960. Mr. McNally worked for ten years as chief litigation counsel for Montgomery Ward in Chicago, and then relocated with his family in 1972 to the Muskegon area to pursue private legal practice. He had a reputation for being a tough litigator. Mr. McNally was proud of his eight children and invested heavily in their education. He enjoyed boating and fishing and bird watching. He was a devout Catholic, a parishioner at St. Mary's and active in a group to preserve the area's historic Catholic churches and neighborhood parishes.
SURVIVORS
In addition to his beloved wife Pat, Mr. McNally is survived by seven of his eight children, Mariann (William Dow), Catherine, Maureen, Sheila, John (Ivania), Michael and Kevin, and was predeceased by his daughter Joan. He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren, Ramsey Khedr, Cameron and Kathleen Dow, Elizabeth and Jack McNally. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jane Crotty.
