Because of illness, he retired in 2004 after 33 years, missing his dental patients and their families immensely. He also was active in several social organizations at various times, AMBUCS, Mona Lake Boat Club and Muskegon Power Squadron. "Woody" loved his 1956 Chris-Craft "Kasha", and the wonderful boating trips taken on her for the years he had her. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, a boisterous laugh and a talent for telling jokes. He enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Mary's of Spring Lake, playing his guitar at various events and sat down at every piano he saw to play and sing "I Wish I Was 18 Again".
