John Hartog Sr.
August 20, 1920 - November 12, 2006

Mr. John Hartog, Sr., age 86, went to be with his Lord Sunday evening, November 12, 2006 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born August 20, 1920 in Paterson, NJ to Peter & Nettie (Offringa) Hartog; and had been a New Jersey resident until moving to Grandville in January of 1996. John was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had been employed as an auto parts jobber for Montclair Auto Parts in Montclair, NJ from 1948 - 1980 and then provided maintenance services and drove school bus for Eastern Christian School Association in North Haledon, NJ, prior to retiring in 1995. He was a member of Ivanrest Christian Reformed Church. On February 14, 1946 he married the former Adriana Wisse and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Greg Bishop and by his brother, Casper Hartog and sister, Johanna Kroeze. SURVIVORS include 4 children, John (Ruth) Hartog of Gallup, NM, Joanne Bishop of Norton Shores, Janice (Kevin) Streelman of Charlotte, NC and Judith Hartog & friend Maureen Denner of Kentwood; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Simon Hartog of North Haledon, NJ and 1 sister, Nell Hartog of Wyckoff, NJ. SERVICES will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Raybrook Chapel (2121 Raybrook SE, Grand Rapids, MI) with the Rev. Dr. Dan Kroeze and Rev. George Aupperlee officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery, Norton Shores, MI. VISITATION with John's family will be one-hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers you are asked to consider Midland Park Christian Reformed Church "Greenfield Children's Education Fund" (183 Godwin Ave., Midland Park, NJ 07432).
