Mr. Stanley R. Tyler Jr., age 66, a community minded businessman whose sponsorship helped launch many of Muskegon's major festivals & who was a giant in Catholic educational circles, died Sunday, November 4, 2001. He was born in Muskegon, MI on September 18, 1935 to Stanley R. & Mary Humbarger Tyler Sr. & married the former Mary Liddle in Muskegon on September 7, 1957. After graduating from the first class of Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1954 & receiving his business degree in 1958 from Notre Dame, he returned to Muskegon to join the family business. Taking over as company President in 1970, Mr. Tyler owned & operated Muskegon's leading beer distributorship, Tyler Sales Inc., a company started by his father in 1934 & run today by his son Jim. Through many sponsorships, Tyler Sales helped begin & support such events as Summer Celebration, Parties in the Park, the Muskegon Air Fair & the Muskegon Shoreline Spectacular. Tyler Sales also supported the Whitehall Maritime Festival & the Bud Light ''Spirit of America'' National Offshore Run for Glory in the late 1980's. Mr. Tyler was a founding member of MEGA & was President on the Board of Directors for the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant along with heading up the Muskegon Notre Dame Club & the Michigan Beer & Wine Distributors. With his wife Mary, the Tyler's were founders of the successful Rainbow Auction & were also the founding members of the Muskegon County Catholic Central Foundation in 1960, instrumental in establishing tuition assistance funds for needy children desiring a Catholic education. He was a communicant of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church.

Wife, Mary; 1 son, James Kristine Tyler of Muskegon, MI; 4 daughters, Terri Steve Melton Tyler of Grandville, MI, Kathi Tom Schultz Tyler & Peggy Drew Buursma, both of Grand Rapids, MI & Mary Tyler of Muskegon, MI; 7 grandchildren, Ian, Annika, Talia & Kyra Tyler; Janae Schultz; Nicholas & Thomas Buursma; 1 sister, Penny Glen Stokey of CA; 1 brother, Dr. Tom Pat Tyler of FL. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jack & Jim Tyler.

SERVICE

Thursday, November 8, 2001, 10:00 AM at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Stasker & Fr. Thomas Simons officiating. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Muskegon, MI.

VISITATION

Wednesday, 3-5 & 7-9 PM at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with a Rosary service at 8:00 PM during visitation. MEMORIAL: The Stan Tyler Catholic Education Fund, 2100 Park St., Muskegon Hts., MI 49444.
