Central Lake, MI
formerly of Muskegon
Mr. Allen J. Sorensen, age 59, of Central Lake, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at home with his family by his side. Stricken with brain cancer in 1993, he courageously fought this battle with an optimistic and non-complaining attitude. He loved his family dearly and his primary concern was that they not suffer throughout his ordeal.
Born in Muskegon on November 12, 1941 to Julius and Catherine Zeedyke Sorensen, he had two brothers, Robert who preceded him in death and Russell Beverly of New York and Muskegon. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
In 1964 he married the former Karleen Haase who survives him. Also surviving are his daughters, Veronica Art Blough of Lowell, Elizabeth John Judd of Muskegon, Susan Sorensen of St. Joseph & Kelly Sorensen Alan Kaufman of Georgia; five grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Al worked as an insurance investigator for many years until forced to retire because of his health. He loved hunting but more for the companionship of his father, brothers and nephews than for the actual hunt. He served as a trustee on the Central Lake Village Council. He was looking forward to spending the upcoming winter in Florida with his wife Karla, who retired from teaching this year.
Al will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 22, 2001 from 6-8 PM at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at Clock Funeral Home in Muskegon with Rev. Estel Clark officiating.
