In loving memory of

Joanne E. Dohrmann
April 28, 1934 - August 31, 2019

Joanne Elizabeth (Symes) Dohrmann, 85, of rural Coulter, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. She was born April 28, 1934, to Raymond and Frances (Coffey) Symes in Rockford, Iowa.

Joanne graduated from Rockford High School with honors and continued her education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Louis Lammert Dohrmann on June 8, 1958, in Rockford. Joanne worked as a secretary for various businesses in the community. She also took a lot of pride in her lunch wagon 'Jo's Food-To-Go', catering at auctions and community events.

Joanne was active in the local Farm Bureau, the Coulter Library, the FGH Auxiliary and assisted with the open exhibits and the Farm Bureau Women at the Franklin County Fair. Joanne was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer and participated in their LWML, choir, and quilting group.

Quilting was Joanne's passion and she tried to get involved with any quilting activity possible. She had fabric, patterns, and unfinished quilts tucked in every nook and cranny of her home. She passed on this passion to her daughter, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters, having quilting weekends as often as possible. She also attended many quilting retreats and participated in a quilting club that met monthly. Joanne and Louie frequented many auctions, often bringing sewing machines and knick-knacks home. She also participated in the shenanigans with her friends and their birthday group for 40+ years and sang duets for weddings and funerals.

Joanne is survived by son Louis Kevin Dohrmann (Jennifer Miller) of Omaha, Nebraska, son Dana (Janelle) Dohrmann of Hampton, daughter Janet (Lanny) Buls of Independence; grandchildren Jesica, Miranda (Patrick), Greg (Laura), Taylor, Ella, Connor, Chrysten, Alex, Elijah, Daniel (Michell), Becki (Brock) and Leah (Mitch); great-grandchildren Lucy, Garrett, Hannah, Emersyn, Jocelyn, Logan, Sophie, Liam, Colton, Ellison, Addilyn and Gabriel; sister Sharon (William) Walsh of Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law VaDonna Dohrmann of Salina, Kansas, brothers-in-law Gerald (Ruby) Dohrmann of Illinois and Wayne (Phyllis) Dohrmann of Manson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis Dohrmann, infant brother Willis Dean Symes, sister Mary Olson, sister-in-law Lenora Groven and brother-in-law Kenneth Dohrmann.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran School in Latimer.

"I was so sorry to see that Joanne had passed! I became aquainted with her at quilting workshops in Wellsburg and we became friends. She & her friend, Mardell were such a wonderful pair of friends who were always fun. I learned some great quilting tips & tricks from her God-given gifts of her mastery & techniques. She was a beautiful, warm-hearted woman who brought joy to everyone she touched. I wish I had kept in touch with her. :( Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Shyrell Eccles, Ackley, Iowa"

"I have such fond memories of my little summer vacations at the farm. Auntie Jo always made me feel so special & loved. She was a wonderful, beautiful soul. I read somewhere when someone dies it's like watching a ship with your favorite people sail away. We wave farewell and are sad. But on the other side, they are being waved in and greeted by many so happy to be reunited. Wishing you peace & comfort. "
