Terry Jamison
June 1, 1934 - September 4, 2019

Mr. Terry Jamison, 85, of Burlington, died at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, September, 4, 2019 at the Great River Hospice House.
Born June 1, 1934 in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Hugh and Fern (Davis) Jamison. He married Ursula Margot Fhieler on May 3, 1959 in Mediapolis, IA. She died April 23, 2000.
Terry grew up on a farm near Mediapolis. He was a 1952 graduate of Mediapolis Community Schools, where he lettered 4 years each in baseball and basketball.
He graduated in June of 1956 from Iowa State University, majoring in Farm Management and Vocational Education. He did his student teaching in agriculture at West Liberty, Iowa.
He was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1956. He served for 21 months as a postal clerk/supply sergeant, 16 months of which he was stationed in Germany. This is where he met his wife and after his discharge from the military, she came to the US and they were married.
He decided teaching wasn't for him and worked for a short time for American Express. He then found his niche at the Job Service office in Burlington. After working for Iowa Workforce Development for 40 years and 8 months, 39 years of which he was the manager, he retired on September 30, 1999.
Mr. Jamison also farmed near Mediapolis his whole life. He won the Iowa Master Corn Growers contest three times in 1975, 1981, and 1986. He also placed second in 1980 and third in 1981 in the National Corn Growers Association yield contest.
For 40 years, he and his son Ryan, have been actively involved in racing. First in odysseys, then modified sprints, and then to 410cc and 360cc sprint cars. He was the owner of the 51J Jamison Racing sprint car team.
Later in life, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Mary Jandro, and they traveled together for some time and he would frequently go to California to visit her.
Over the years, he belonged to many groups and boards associated with his employment and farming, but in recent years, he enjoyed traveling, going to the races, attending "church" on Sundays which consisted of hanging out with other farmers in various locations for an hour or two drinking coffee and his regular coffee group "the couch potatoes" at the Edgewater Grill each weekday morning. He was a huge Iowa State Cyclone fan.
Survivors include son, Ryan (Teresa) Jamison of Mediapolis, IA; two grandchildren, Asia Jamison Hartman of Morning Sun, and Blaine Jamison of Mediapolis, two great grandchildren, Ezra and Stella and his friend, Mary Jandro of Newport Beach, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Nancy Nelson.
The funeral service for Mr. Jamison will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10th at Lunning Chapel. Mr. Ned Fry will officiate. Interment will be in Kossuth Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, September 9th at Lunning Chapel, where family will receive friends.
A memorial has been established for Mediapolis Future Farmers of America.
