Dorothy Buckingham, daughter of Dewey and Sadie (Apt) Goehring was born on April 6, 1925 in Oakland, Iowa. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1942. On January 1, 1946 Dorothy married John E. Buckingham at the Congressional Church of Oakland, Iowa.

They made their home on the family farm in rural Macedonia. Dorothy, on top of being a homemaker over the years, had served on the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors (1st woman elected) as well as worked in the Treasurer's office. Dorothy was very instrumental in the growth of Omaha while working as vice president of the Riverfront Development Foundation and later working as director of research for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce where she retired in 2003.

John and Dot, as she was known by many, loved to travel around the world and really enjoyed card parties, sweet corn boils and square dancing with friends over the years. Dorothy enjoyed yard work, flower gardens, baking, sewing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid lover of her pets and deeply enjoyed "the cows".

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; sister, Betty Kullbom (Leonard); son-in-law Michael Wright; brother-in-law Norris Buckingham; sister-in-law Helen M. Miller (Jack).

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Beverly Wright of Carson, IA; grandsons, Shane Wright of Carson and Jason Wright (Amy) of St Louis, MO, sister-in-law Norma Buckingham of Carson; and many other relatives and many friends.
