Dorothea Marie Miller
November 24, 1920 - September 11, 2019

Dorothea M. Miller, 98, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M., SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 10 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Dorothea Marie Harder was born on November 24, 1920 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Edward Louis and Christina Sophia (Jessen) Harder. She was a graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Duane Milton "Pete" Miller on June 1, 1941 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2010.

Dorothea was a homemaker and through the years had worked at various places including Schultz's Dime Store, Maytag, and JC Penney Store. Most notably she had worked at Maquoketa Medical Center as a receptionist for 25 years until retirement.

Dorothea was a member of the Elwood United Methodist Church and the UMW. In earlier years, she had served as a leader of the Brookfield Township 4-H Club.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed going to the weekly card clubs with Duane.

Those left to honor her memory include a daughter, Ellen Place of San Ramon, CA; 3 grandchildren, Amy Steward of Calamus, IA, Jennifer (Troy) Mohr of Wheatland, IA, and Heather (Jaga) Crossingham of Fiji; 8 great-grandchildren, Malana and Mason Mohr, Noah, Natalya and Braxton Crossingham, Shalyn, McKalyn and Kolton Steward; and a nephew Gary Harder of Maquoketa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Ernest and Elmer Harder, and a son Craig Alan Miller.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Elwood United Methodist Church, or Genesis Hospice.

"I will not be able to attend services on Saturday. I work with Dorothea at Maquoketa Medical Center. Growing up she was my 4-H leader and I remember having a meeting at her house on a hot summer day and we all watched a tornado cloud up high. Time passes. My sympathy to the family."
