"When my wife and I decided to split up after 20 years basicly she was kicking me out last february , quit my job and i called matt because i knew he cared about me as a friend & that i was coming back home to iowa,i wanted to see him , He said F that pack your stuff and get your A here when you coming and you can stay with me until you figure things out, had my wife drop me off at matts 5 hour drive later with my suitcase, he rolled out the red carpet for me had steaks cooking on the grill and a stiff cold drink waiting for me to soak in my sorrows, and we talked about personal things i cannot share here , but i just wanted to let everyone know what kind of person he was always being a good friend with advice to share. He used to be so hard on me sometimes but i know now it was only because he cared. I stayed with him 4 days no questions asked. I won't ever forget your kindness and generosity my friend. Love you Matt. I'm still in shock . but i know your heaven now with your parents ....i remember we spent all night going through your family photos box and you truly missed them... Matthew Joseph "Matt" Daly, 50, of Burlington died Friday, September 20, 2019 at his home.
Born June 3, 1969 in Burlington he was the son of Francis P. and Mary Jo (Soesbe) Daly.
Matt was a skilled small engine repair mechanic. He was of the Catholic faith.
He enjoyed playing music, building bicycles, Steam Punk Art, trap shooting, working with his hands and was very skilled with machinery and building things. Matt never knew a stranger and would do anything for any one.
He is survived by his daughter Jenna; eight brothers and sisters, Barbara (Nate) Housman of Mediapolis, Pat (Gayle) Daly of Burlington, Marianne Stratton of Coralville, Bob (Heidi) Daly of Gilbert, Arizona, Margie (Steve) Swanner of Burlington, Andrew (Merideth) Daly of St. Louis, Missouri, Jim (Brenda Johnson) Ewinger of Cleveland, Ohio and Sara Daly of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Michael in infancy.
The memorial funeral service for Matt will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Father Dan Dorau will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge #579 following the memorial service.
