SIGOURNEY-Ruth Hutton, age 101, of Sigourney, died Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Ruth was born August 10, 1918, in rural Keokuk County, Iowa, to Claude and Ada (Beall) Martin and received her education in country schools. On September 17, 1938, she married Aldus R. "Shorty" Hutton in Lancaster, Missouri. Ruth was a cook at Sigourney High School for seven years and Manor House Care Center for 17 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of First Christian Church in Sigourney, where she served as Deaconess and the Sigourney Golf and Country Club, where she was club champion 12 years. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting and embroidery.
Survivors include two daughters: Carolyn (Dean) Dyson of Harper and Bonnie Durst of Wellman; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Shorty in 2001; son: Robert Wayne Hutton; two grandsons: Timothy Wayne Hutton and Brian Richard Durst; great grandson: Lincoln Dean Dyson; great granddaughter: Iris Grace Durst; son-in-law: Richard Durst and two brothers: Rex Martin and Ralph Martin.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at First Christian Church in Sigourney, with Revs. Dave Welch and Nick Needham officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
