Laurie A. Meyer
September 20, 1965 - September 28, 2019

On September 28, 2019, God looked around Heaven, saw some cobwebs and dust, and decided major house cleaning was in order. He then looked down upon earth and saw Laurie, "The Queen of Clean," and called her to His Kingdom.

No one really knows how Laurie's obsession with cleaning actually started, although most speculate it began after the death of her own mother, Madeline. Laurie, then age 12 and the oldest girl in the family, assumed the housekeeping duties.

Not to be outdone by any of her siblings, Laurie had a wild side. She was known to mysteriously disappear after Saturday night Mass, once, finding herself stranded at a party somewhere in northern Kossuth County during an unexpected blizzard. When located, her dad threatened to come and get her in the *?#!$&% blizzard. It is quite likely that Laurie is the reason her father coined the well-known saying, "If you're trying to make me mad, you're doing a good job of it!"

Her free-spiritedness led her to Joseph Meyer, whom she married on June 11, 1994. They later divorced. Joe and Laurie were blessed with two children, Ryan and Madison, who have inherited much of their mother's "spirited nature." It is known by all that Laurie was extremely proud of her children. She was overjoyed to be a grandma to Draven Zane.

Laurie spent many years as an interpreter for the deaf in schools and colleges. She enjoyed working with the deaf community and proudly achieved her American Translators Association (ATA) certification as a certified translator. Therefore, not only could Laurie talk your ear off, she could talk her own fingers off!

In 2005, Laurie reconnected with a long-time friend, Pat Rubie. They shared many years of companionship. She was blessed to have Pat in her life. Not only did he support her through her health issues, he endured, and possibly contributed to, her passion for antiques, particularly crocks. This has led her children to say, "What the hell are we going to do with all this stuff?!" If interested in buying, please contact Ryan or Maddie after the memorial celebration.

Like her Grandma Ditsworth, Laurie was a great cook. She worked to perfect her grandma's kringla recipe. Laurie's Facebook page had more posts of recipes than pictures of her family or dogs. Those she has left behind certainly appreciate that she never tried to duplicate Grandma Doocy's Chicken and Cat Hair Casserole.

Those left to treasure Laurie's memory are her children, Ryan (Summer) Meyer and her grandson, Draven, of Runnells and Madison (Brett Chandler) Meyer of Des Moines; her long-time partner, Pat Rubie, of Dubuque; her siblings, Joe Doocy of Algona; Pat (Leslie Frost) Doocy of Des Moines; Brenda Doocy of Algona; Chris (Heather) Doocy of Des Moines; Terri (Tim Jahr) Doocy of Algona; Dalton Doocy of Algona; and Bailee Geitzenauer of Algona; her nieces and nephew, Alissa Doocy and Autumn Kramer, Sydney and Makenzie Doocy, and Gunner Geitzenauer; her step-mother, Dixie (Don) Eichelberger of Algona; and last, but certainly not least, her fur babies, Riddick and Diesel. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also survive.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Madeline (Baker) Doocy and William "Bill" Doocy, and her grandparents William and Helen (Butterfield) Doocy and Raymond and Bernice (Ingalls) Ditsworth. She was also proceeded in death by her fur babies Snoop and Maximus.

Tributes
