Darrell E. Tarrence
February 15, 1943 - September 29, 2019

Darrell E. Tarrence, 76, of New London, died Sunday, September 29, 2019 at his home. He was born February 15, 1943 in Fairfield to Kenneth and Helen Book Tarrence. He was raised in Packwood and also lived in Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant.
On March 17, 1990, he married Connie Raines in New London. He had been previously married to Sharyn Cox; they divorced.
Darrell graduated in the last class of Packwood High School in 1961 and was of the Protestant faith. He worked for George's Pizza in Fairfield and later for Jerry's Pizza in Mt. Pleasant; did auto body repair and automotive services; was a past member of the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department; enjoyed racing stock cars; and was a member of the Iowa National Guard.
Besides his wife of New London, Darrell is survived by children; Traci (Daryl) Thomas of Creedmoor, NC, Steve (Patty) Tarrence of Columbia, MO., Debi Tarrence of Salem, Mike (Nicky) Tarrence of Ottumwa, Jodi (Walt) Jackson and Mike (April) Raines, both of New London; 14 grandchildren; Aaron, Emily, Ryan, Nathan, Justin, Taylor, Mitchell, Brendon, Keaton, Amber, Peyton, Cameron, Michael and Riley; six great-grandchildren; Aven, Kyler, Preston, Olivia, Oliver and Jackson; and three brothers; Dale (Cindy) of Mt. Pleasant, Duane (Bette) of Burlington and Dennis of North Carolina. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Justin Tarrence.
A celebration of Life for Mr. Tarrence will be held Friday, from 10:00 - 2:00 at the New London Community Center. Memorials have been established for Every Step Hospice and New London Fire and Rescue. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and inurnment will be at a later date in Burge Cemetery.
