Miriam May Smith, 84, of Hurley, NY, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at home with her family by her side. She was born September 22, 1935 in Concord, NC the daughter of the late Elmer and Edith (Sickles) Havens.
Miriam was a Kingston High School Graduate, Class of 1952. She later was an Administrative Assistant at IBM in Kingston until she married her husband of 44 years, the late Bernard Smith in 1956. Bernard passed away in 2001. She was a Communicant of St. John's RC Church in West Hurley.
Miriam is survived by her children, Mark (Maria) Smith of Virginia, Guy Smith of Rochester, Diane Marie (Joseph) Lane of Hurley, Christian (Leah) Smith of Hurley, Judy Smith of Hurley, Lance Bernie Smith of Hurley, Valerie Therese (Phil) Hill of Woodstock, Terence (Manit) Smith of New Paltz, 26 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her siblings, Edith Watson, and Roy (Judi) Havens, her sisters in law, Rose Havens and Carol Dunn, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by her brothers, Elmer, Lester, and Donald Havens.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Kingston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10am on Saturday October 19, 2019 at St. John's RC Church, 12 Holly Hills Drive, Woodstock, NY 12498. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.StJude.org or Shriner's Hospitals for Children at www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org A tribute for Miriam can be found at www.KeyserFuneralService.com, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for her family.

"I'll never forget all the times I spent as a young boy playing with my sister and my cousins at Aunt Miriam and Uncle Bernie's house. So many cousins! We all had so much fun together. I especially remember the time I gave Aunt Miriam a real scare when I decided to walk back to Kingston, NY all by myself looking for my Mom. If I remember correctly, she found me walking along the highway with my BB gun over my shoulders. She was so mad at me, and rightly so. When I got in the car she looked me straight in the eye both angry and relieved and said, " your mother is going to be so angry with you". And me, being such a wise guy said back to her, "no she won't, she'll be happy to see me!" I will always love my Aunt Miriam, especially in that moment. I'm so thankful she found me that day. I was freezing cold carrying that BB gun and could'nt wait to get into that warm car with her, and that could have been very risky considering what I had just put her through. I wish I could have seen her one more time but God a another plan. To all my cousins, you have my heart felt condolences and prayers and love. Your special Mom will be missed. Love you all, Whit"
