"Thank you, Lloyd for being such a good man, friend and neighbor. We miss you. "Fair Winds and Following Seas." --Scott "Scottie" Hengel, U.S. Navy, Ret."
Lloyd James "Jim" Walters, 80, of Goodview passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 21, 2019, at his home.
Lloyd was born on December 12, 1938, to Elmer and Ruth (McClees) Walters in Vernon County, WI. As a young man he enlisted into the United States Air Force. When he returned from the service, he met his future wife, Norma Jean Warnken at a dance when a friend dared him to go ask her to dance. Lloyd and Norma were married on June 22, 1963.
Lloyd and Norma have three children, Lisa, Mikel, and Matt who blessed them with six grandchildren. Over his working life, he spent 42 years climbing the ladder at Kelly's furniture store.
Lloyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, and playing cards. He was an avid Vikings, Twins, and Gophers fan. If any of his teams were to lose, 'Grampa' quickly became 'Grumpa' in his grandchildren's eyes when they would hear his grumbles.
Lloyd will be remembered largely for his laughter. If he heard a great joke or told a joke he thought was hilarious, his glasses would quickly be removed so he could take some time to wipe away the tears from his eyes.
Those left to cherish Lloyd's memory are his wife of 56 years, Norma Jean Walters; daughter, Lisa (Hugh) Smith; sons, Mikel (Karen) Walters and Matthew (Kristin) Walters; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Parker, Chase, Blake, Samantha, Kaitlyn; brother, Richard Walters; sisters, Shirley Hollander; Sharon Meier, and Kathleen Walters; sisters-in-law, Diane Walters and Grace Walters; and many other relatives and friends.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth; sister, Beverly (Bernie) Meyer; brothers, Wayne Walters and Keith Walters; sister-in-law, Pat Walters; and brothers-in-law, Jim Meier and Tom Rolbiecki; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Vida Warnken.
A Celebration of Life will be from 2-5 PM on Saturday, (November 16, 2019) at the Winona Eagles Club in Winona. Inurnment will be in Preston State Veteran's Cemetery in Preston, MN. The family would like to invite you to join them for his Inurnment service at Preston State Veteran's Cemetery on November 15, 2019 at 3:00 PM.
