LETTS, Iowa - Gary M. Howe, 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to the family. Gary was born on March 24, 1942, in Iowa City, the son of Lloyd O. and Mary L. Milner Howe. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1960 and Muscatine Community College in 1972. He married Charlotte Hinman in 1966 and later divorced.

He was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Turkey, Taiwan, and California from 1960 until 1964. He had many occupations; from factory worker, accountant, bar owner to truck driver. He enjoyed traveling to the southern states, especially South Padre Island, Texas. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his special friend, Charlotte Howe of Fruitland; three children: Denny Hinman and his wife, Melanie, of Letts; Deb Painter and her husband, Chris, of Fruitland; and Randy Howe and his wife, Sandy, of Letts; two step-daughters, Charlene DeLong of Letts and Cathy Richardson and her husband, Robert, of Columbus Junction; 10 grandchildren: Alaina Ortiz (German), Chasity Davis, Ashley Hinman, Craig Hackett (Andrea), Derek Kropf (Nicole), Amber Williams (Dan), Megan Lamb, Brenda Weyers (Ben), Mitch Painter, and Zach Painter; 12 great grandchildren: Jared, Macey, Harper, Ava, Benjamin, Hunter, Toryn, Lola, Cooper, Charley, Brylee, and KaeLeigh; his siblings: Delores Dierdorff and her husband, Dene, of Moscow; Linda Morris of Nichols; and Steven Howe and his wife, Donna, of Nichols; and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Howe.
