Lucretia "Lutie" Madeline Bender
February 23, 1949 - October 27, 2019

Lucretia "Lutie" Madeline Bender, 70, of Keokuk, passed away peacefully in her home in Keokuk, surrounded by family and loved ones, Sunday, October 27, 2019.

Lutie was born February 23, 1949, in Keokuk, to Clifford and Betty Thornton Hornung. She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Bender on August 16, 1969 in Keokuk. He survives.

Lutie is a lifelong resident of Keokuk. She was a homemaker for many years and volunteered at Larry School of Dance. Lutie was a member of the Community of Christ, President of the Hickory Grove Cemetery Association, a volunteer at Keokuk Area Hospital, past member of the Keokuk Park Board and Planning Commission, a member of PTA and a Cub Scouts Leader.

Lutie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Bob Bender, son; Kevin (Brooke) Bender of Hamilton, IL and daughter; Dana, brother; Mike Hornung of Keokuk, two grandchildren; Bailey and Hallie Mae
Bender, two nieces; Lori Longnecker and Donna LaBonte, nephew; Jackson Bender.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 10 am, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk with Hugh Ferguson and Evelyn Dustin officiating. Lutie will be laid to rest at Keokuk National Cemetery following services.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019, after 3 pm, with family greeting friends and family from 5 to 8 pm at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk.

Family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Lee County Hospice in honor of Lutie.
