Mary J. Johnson
January 9, 1931 - November 5, 2019

Mrs. Mary Jean (Proctor) Johnson was born January 9, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the daughter of Elwood Proctor Sr. and Lucille (Williams) Proctor.

She was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System and attended Crispus Attucks High School. She went back to school in 1978 to get her GED.

On February 21, 1948 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Matt (Maudie) Johnson Jr. Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a member of Breeding Tabernacle C.M.E. Church for years and the last few years she has been a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Mary worked for many years at RCA, she also worked at Deluxe Check Printers and she finally retired after 11 years from Lane Bryant.
After her retirement she moved to Lansing, Michigan, where she became a foster grandparent. After two years she came back to Indianapolis, where she continued her Foster Grand parenting. She volunteered at College Park Elementary and Funshine Daycare.

Mary (Granny), in her free time she enjoyed crocheting afghans, and kitchen towels for her friends and love ones. She also loved to sit outside and watch people and the cars in her community. She really enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on Holidays and special occasions.

Mary Jean (Proctor) Johnson got her wings on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the age of eighty- eight. She was preceded in death by her parents Elwood Proctor Sr. and Lucille (Williams) Proctor. She was also preceded by her sister Mildred Rice and three brothers, Harvey, Elwood Jr., and Clen Proctor, also her step-brother Louis Proctor. As well as her two sons, Sherman Johnson and Bruce Johnson Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Beverly A. (Johnson) Givens and Sylvia (Johnson) Cunningham; two sons, Randy Johnson (Monica) and Rickie A. Johnson; her sister, Lenora E. (Proctor) Johnson, brothers, Harold and Henry Proctor. Her grandchildren, Kristia Dunn-Sanford (Tony), Brian Wharton (Renee), Lance Givens, Damian Givens, Bruce Johnson Jr. (Tori), Dejuan Johnson, Danielle Cunningham, Devon Johnson, Aaron Cunningham, Ashlynn Johnson and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mary Jean (Proctor) Johnson was well loved by everyone who knew her.

If she was here with us today, she would tell everyone, "Thank You".
