In loving memory of

Mary Magdalene Swanson
October 21, 1928 - November 7, 2019

Mary Swanson was born on October 21st, 1928, the 12th child of Swan and Elizabeth Swanson; the family expanded over the next few years when 6 more siblings were born. Including the niece who became another 'sibling', there were 21 Swanson's who shared their tiny two-bedroom home. It was tight; they slept three in a bed, and although it sounds strange by today's standards, an incredible family bond was created. Not only were they each other's best friends, they were nearly inseparable until their last days.
If we could pick one word to describe Aunt Mary, it would be SELFLESS. Others would be: funny, loving, kindhearted, and brave, with a good amount of 'crazy' thrown in. She loved animals nearly as much as her occasional 'Happy Hour'. Having no children of her own, we all became her children. No matter what was needed, she always stepped up to the plate. She was famous for her use of 'Duct Tape' - oh my god, Aunt Mary could fix ANYTHING with Duct Tape.
She helped raise her younger siblings, left school after 8th grade and went to work to help support the family and then continued to support and care for her brothers and mother. After they passed, she lived alone until 2018, when she sold her home and moved in with her sister, Lois. Following a brief stint in an assisted living facility, she lived the rest of her days happy and loved in the care of her great-niece, Michelle.
After a fearless battle with cancer, she passed away. She is survived by her sister Lois. She spent most of her 91 years enjoying each day to the fullest and then was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, siblings and a multitude of relatives and friends. She was a gentle soul, had a life full of love and humor and will definitely be missed.
