Howard "Hoddy" Durian
February 2, 1927 - November 9, 2019

WELLMAN-Howard B. "Hoddy" Durian, age 92, of Wellman, died Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Brown Deer Place in Coralville.
Hoddy was born February 2, 1927, in Wellman, the son of Charles and Kathryn Durian. He graduated from Wellman High School. Hoddy was a WWII Veteran serving in the United States Navy. On June 9, 1949, he was united in marriage to Clarabelle Ann Kaska. They were later divorced. Hoddy worked at Amana Refrigeration for 25 years. He was a general foremen when he retired. After retirement Hoddy worked in the agriculture field until he retired from that at the age of 80 years.
Hoddy was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved all sports. He attended the Drake Relays for 44 consecutive years, beginning in 1965. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, attending sporting events and watching the tv show Jeopardy.
Survivors include six sons: Patrick Durian of Wellman, Michael Durian of Wellman, John (Robin) Durian of Tiffin, Tom (Marcie) Durian of North Liberty, Jim (Jennifer) Durian of Cedar Rapids and Terry Durian of Cedar Rapids, 7 grandchildren: Shawn Kauffman, Shane Durian, McKenna, Brittney, Ashley, Austin, and Victoria Durian. 2 great grandchildren Clara Bell and Lorenzo and a son-in-law: Jerry Kauffman of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters: Vicki Durian and Mary Kauffman.

Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman, with Rev. Bill Roush officiating. Burial will be at Wassonville Cemetery near Wellman, with Military rites by Charles A. Polton Post #427. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman, where there will be a Rosary at 3:30 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman is caring for Hoddy and his family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
