Raul Bover, age 84, of Quincy, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2019, at 1:35 a.m.
Raul was born September 6, 1935 in Havana, Cuba a son of Jose and Rosario Rodriguez Bover. He married Elvira Freire on February 8, 1958 in Havana, Cuba. She survives.
Raul and Elvira came to the United States from Cuba in 1961. Initially, the family lived in Miami, but they eventually settled in Quincy. Raul was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he worked hard his entire life to provide a nice life for his family. Raul had been employed by Hilbing Auto Body for more than 40 years.
Raul enjoyed baseball. While he was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, he always maintained that he "just wanted to see a good game."
In addition to his wife, survivors include: four children: Paul Bover of Champaign, IL; Raquel (Rich) Karpinski of Roselle, IL; Elena Lock; and Rose Bover both of Quincy; five grandchildren: Emily Karpinski of Austin TX; Allison Karpinski of Roselle, IL; Katie (Jason) Lewis of Hannibal, MO; Joshua (Chrissy) Lock of Bowen, IL; and Lydia Lock of Quincy; three great grandchildren: Arianna Lock, Saul Lock, and Zelda Lewis; two step great grandchildren: Daniel and Ashton Miller; his sister, Alicia Valdez of Miami, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Stephan Miller of Champaign, IL.
Raul was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Services: 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Meado officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

"My Uncle, Tio Raul was a great valiant and courageous man. I have never forgotten one memory that I will carry forever; In 1960 I was seven years old in Habana, Cuba playing sandlot baseball when suddenly gunfire erupted on the street. Out of nowhere Tio Raul came running and picked up my brother and I, and tucked us under his arms while he ran carrying us to safety, this was just but one example of his devotion to his family. In the early 1970?s I was able to visit him and the family in Quincy while on one of my cross country trips, I will never forget the love he bestowed upon me. He was a man who sacrificed all for his family, a tireless worker, father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle always expressing his love to all of us. He was an American Patriot who loved this country bringing his family to the US, never taking for granted the freedoms he was able to enjoy here. He is a member of the greatest generation. He is now resting by God?s side having a good laugh with my Dad and his brothers, I can see his huge smile as I writer this. I will always love you, your nephew Tonito???."
