After 56 years of living life to the fullest, 25 years of devoted marriage, 20 years of joyful fatherhood, 29 years of sharing his passion in computers with the Mayo Clinic Health Care System, Donald Stewart Glascock leaves this earth to be with God.

Donald enjoyed and excelled at all things technical. He was known as a brilliant and humble man and never held it over the rest of us. Understanding his role as a mentor and leader in the hemophilia community, Donald was active and respected in the Hemophilia Foundation of the Minnesota and Dakotas (HFMD).

Donald enjoyed wood working, country western dancing, camping, astronomy and perfecting his favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Tributes

John Brode wrote on Dec 10, 2019:

"I have just finished reading all the tributes that have been posted so far, and I think everyone has already described the Don that I knew as a kid so many years ago. Even at 13 years of age, he was a kind, caring, and generous soul. I first met Don in the 7th grade. We became friends and remained so throughout junior high, high school, and into college. After college, we drifted apart as so many do, but I never forgot about him. I have many fond memories of the "trouble" we got into as kids. We would sneak out into the woods near the junior high school we attended to build tree forts during lunch hour. Don lived in Los Alamos, and I was in White Rock, so we would talk on the CB radio instead of using the phone. He was warm and comfortable in his house with a CB base station, and I would be freezing in my dad's jeep. We would talk until I was too cold to squeeze the microphone button anymore. I am not surprised that he has touched the lives of so many people in such a good way. Condolences to all those who knew him and especially his wife and family. The world is a lesser place without him. "

Pam Mroz wrote on Dec 7, 2019:

"Don was such a beautiful soul. We are holding you and the boys in our hearts and wishing you comfort and peace...."

Tim Gruidl wrote on Dec 5, 2019:

"Don was a customer for over 10 years. I enjoyed his passion, dedication and commitment to Mayo was unsurpassed. Don was one of my favorite customers and one that I would often call to brainstorm new ideas and innovations and he always had great ideas and was amazing to talk to. I will miss him and am glad I had the opportunity to know him."

Clint Hartman wrote on Dec 5, 2019:

"Don was a role model and the person we all strive to be. He was the kindest, most gentle and caring person I've ever met. Always positive, never a negative word to say about any situation or person. For the last 10+ years, Don is the person I've worked the closest with at Mayo. That experience would have been completely different without Don. I will forever miss him. Don was always willing to lend a hand and make sure everyone was happy. I'll never forget having hallway conversations with Don, and if someone looked lost, he would immediately pause the conversation, and ask if there was anything he can help. So grateful to have had Don in my life. Bless you Stephanie, Ryan, and Joel."

David Rauenhorst wrote on Dec 4, 2019:

"Don was a unique man and this is such a shock. Despite everything he has gone through he still had such a positive outlook on life and took everything with grace. He was a knowledgeable person who still found wonderment in continuing to learn. In the world we live in he was a breath of fresh air and a welcome adjustment to perspective. He was an important member for the HFMD community and now that he is gone there will be a void that will be difficult to fill. I am glad to have had a chance to know Don and have learned a lot from his stories and his history. I know he loved the community and I think everything he put into the community rewarded him with great joy. None of the HFMD or national meetings will be the same without his spirit, his quips, or his input. Don touched many people and will be missed but not forgotten. "

Dana Petricka wrote on Dec 4, 2019:

"It was such a blessing having Don as a Confirmation Leader when Ryan was going through the Confirmation program. He was a Confirmation leader for Riley Becher, and Riley told me later that one of the reasons he chose to go to seminary was because of the impact his Confirmation leaders, like Don, had on him. Don is a wonderful man and will be missed so much by so many! Praying for you all!!!"

Joni Osip wrote on Dec 4, 2019:

"I knew Don from his volunteer work with HFMD. Always friendly, always ready to help, especially AV problems. May he Rest In Peace."

Debbie Huling wrote on Dec 4, 2019:

"Donald was such a kind and gentle person. My most vivid memory of him happened when we were young and Laurie and I were playing squirt guns (starting with small sryinges and ending with a hose) with Donald and my brother. We would chase each other around the house and wait at the corner for the daring victim to emerge only to get doused by water! Later, I always remember him with a kind look and a smile on his face and always, always, caring for others. Stephanie, I met you and Joel briefly one year when you were in Los Alamos for the holidays. I'm so sorry for your loss and know he will be greatly missed. He will be one very, very bright star in our skies! Debbie (Tolmie) Huling"

"Stephanie, Ryan, and Joel, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine... Don was the kindest man I've ever known. Over the many, many years I've been around him I've never once seen or heard of him getting negative about anything or towards anyone. He was passionate about the Hemophilia community, and he gave so much of his time, talent, and effort for all of us. He will truly be missed. Stephanie, I can't begin to try to understand the grief you're experiencing. I believe Don is with God smiling down, and he's with you always. Ryan and Joel, your Dad was a great man. Stay true to what you've learned from him and you'll be great men too. Stay strong. If there's anything I can do, please ask. You are in my prayers. -Jeff Kunkel"

"I know Don as a man that loved and adored his wife and children. Stephanie, you knew a love that most people never experience. I never heard Don say an unkind word to anyone. His memory was so amazing. He could recall a conversation from many years ago and talk about it the next time he saw you. So amazing. "I remember "Donny" as a little boy when our family would visit Aunt Theresa & Uncle Breck & our grandparents in NM. Aunt Theresa had so many funny stories of Don's "antics" that we were always laughing. I was sorry that our families lost contact for so many years but am happy that we got to meet all of you again at our family reunion a few years ago. Don also corresponded some with our daughter about Hemophelia when her son was diagnosed with it; I'll always appreciate his helpfulness to her. I wish we'd had more time for more visits with him & your family. May his soul rest in the peace of the Lord and may the Lord comfort you in your sorrow."

Jeff Huston wrote on Dec 3, 2019:

"Everything I saw Don do was for the benefit of other people. It obviously showed up with his choice to work for Mayo Clinic and his dedication to its patients. But it also extended to his coworkers and even development partners like us at Nerdery. When something went wrong he would focus on solutions rather than assigning blame. When something went right he was quick and generous in giving credit to others. And when credit came his way, he would find a way to turn around and give that credit away to somebody else instead. It was plain to see in his words and actions the way he cared for other people. He had a fire in him too. I saw it come out once when we were dealing with some issues with a vendor and weren't getting the attention we needed from them. Don politely but firmly stated that he expected an update on the issue within 24 hours. And if there wasn't a satisfactory update within 24 hours he was going to start calling them every 6 hours looking for an update. Then every 2 hours. And then he claimed he was going to open up a line to their support and simply keep the line open until the issue was fixed. It was glorious. And as you can guess, we suddenly had their attention and the issue was resolved within 24 hours :-) Don had a unique way of thinking and engaging with people. He helped remind me that no matter how serious your business seems to be at the moment, life is about the people you touch. And he certainly did that. He will be missed."

Karl Fritz wrote on Dec 3, 2019:

"Stephanie, Ryan and Joel. Very sorry to hear of Don's passing. I met him when I was an intern at Mayo Clinic working for the SPPDG in the 1994 timeframe. I remember my first encounter with him. I was printing out a full page comic from Doctor Fun on one of the old color printers that used wax instead of toner. Well, I jammed it because the comic used so much wax. I was terrified because I knew I was printing stupid stuff on company property. I had to tell Don. Don was a bit frustrated, and reminded me I shouldn't be printing something like this because it jams the printer. But he was cool about it. Don was a great guy and I liked working with him. Don was always up for the monthly meeting with the "Ex-SPPDG" gang after some of us moved on to other jobs and always had interesting updates about what he was up to as well as Ryan and Joel. He will be missed by many. Karl Fritz."
