In loving memory of

Mary L. Nathanson
October 26, 1942 - August 6, 2019

Mary Nathanson, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on August 6, 2019, after a long battle against cancer. She was born October 26, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey to Elmer and Alice Longendyck. On March 17, 1962, she married the love of her life, Sherman, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage in the great state of New Jersey.
Mary loved to be surrounded by family and was happiest holding court during family gatherings. Her smile, grace, selflessness, sense of humor and witty sarcasm had a gravitational pull like no other. Her social energy was contagious and she gave freely of herself. Everyone was welcome.
A renowned seamstress, quilter, ceramics painter, and knitter, there was nothing Mary couldnt master if she set her mind to it. When she wasnt crafting, she could be found reading or completing crossword puzzles. One of her greatest joys was watching sports with her husband and family, particularly the New York Yankees, Giants, and Rangers.
Mary is survived by her five brothers, five sisters, three daughters, son, daughter in-law, son in-law and six grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 15, from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Ely Funeral Home 3316 Route 33, Neptune, NJ 07753. Burial in the Brig. Gen. WC Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, will be on Friday, August 16 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider making a donation in her memory to Marys Place by the Sea, in Ocean Grove, NJ.

"We have come to know Mary having so many ideals in common that our strong friendship developed over 30 years ago. We shared many experiences from fabulous to fantastic and anything in-between. Mary and the family had been to our home so many times enjoying the laughter of stories from childhood to parenting. Eating and drinking never failed to produce deep conversations but always fun and entertaining. We will miss Mary very much and she and her large family are in our thoughts and prayers as we have come to know and enjoy everyone."
