Gene Devereux
March 20, 1927 - February 22, 2016

Eugene Gene Devereux, 88 of Forked River, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 22, 2016. Born in Orange, NJ he lived in East Hanover, NJ before moving to Forked River.
Gene worked as a brick layer and mason with the Brick Layers and Allied Craft Workers Local #4 for many years before retiring. He later worked for the Ocean County Parks Dept. at the Atlantis Golf Course in Tuckerton as a starter and ranger. A WWII Navy Veteran, he was a member of the VFW in Bayville, the Forked River Moose Lodge and the Lacey Elks. Gene loved playing golf, horseshoes, darts, and entertaining friends and family with his endless jokes and stories. His jovial personality and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gene is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara; his children and their spouses; Michael and Debbie of Valrico, FL; Eugene Jr. and Brenda of Montville, NJ; Chris and Lisa of Mendham, NJ; Andrew and Amanda of Florida; Tracey and Dan Timony of Lacey, NJ; Erin Quinn of Boonton, NJ; Tara and Mike Gobbo of Whiting, NJ; and Kim and Mike Mancini of Lacey, NJ; his loving sister Madeline Mergner of Keyport, NJ; his 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may attend viewing hours from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Lacey Memorial Home 1022 Lacey Road Forked River, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the funeral home. A private cremation will follow.
