La Mona M. Folkerts, 91, of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Simpson Health Care Center, Friendship Haven.
Memorial services will be 3:30 PM Friday, December 13, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. A private family burial will be in Saint John's Lutheran Cemetery east of Palmer, Iowa. A visitation will be 2:30 PM Friday until the start of the service at the church.
La Mona is survived by her daughters, Jane (John) Junkman of Manson and Lana (Brian) McHughes of Wichita, KS; son-in-law, Gary Doster of Rockwell City, 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha (Poppinga) Martens, husband, Wilbert Folkerts; daughters, Kay Condon, Joy Folkerts, and Marcy Doster; and brother, Harlan Martens.
La Mona Mae Martens was born August 14, 1928 at home in Gilmore City. She attended rural grade school until 8th grade and then graduated from Manson High School in 1947. On February 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Wilbert Folkerts. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. She worked for Friendship Haven for 21 years. She also worked for Northwoods Living for 6 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. La Mona was dedicated to her strong faith. She was confirmed at Gilmore City Lutheran Church. La Mona loved to travel and dance. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Se was especially fond of her 80th birthday party that she spent with her family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be left to Unity Point Hospice or Friendship Haven.
