In loving memory of

Patricia Trimbell
February 12, 1936 - November 24, 2019

Patricia Ann Trimbell died peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 24, 2019 in the company of her four daughters.

Pat set an amazing example of how to be a strong, independent, intelligent, and articulate contributor to society. She loved adventure, nature, bird-watching, and a good intellectual sparring. She is remembered by her children as a stickler for appropriate diction and grammar, and for encouraging their independence; she was always saying, "You can do it!" Pat embodied this can-do attitude in life. While raising her four daughters, she completed her college degree and earned a Master's in Nutrition Science from Iowa State University. She had a professional career as a registered dietician and small business owner.

After retiring from professional life, she and her (late) husband Don Durand sailed the Atlantic and Mediterranean on their 38-foot catamaran "Laura Lee," collecting friends, memories and seashells along the way.

Pat's last port in life was in her adopted hometown of Ames, Iowa, where she and Don made many friends at the Village Cooperative. Pat was active in the co-op and the Unitarian Fellowship, and thrived in her community. Her friends provided her with love and support until the end, taking her to appointments and errands as her eyesight failed, and constantly fretting about her determination to continue riding her beloved bicycle!

Pat was born in Saint Maries Idaho, daughter of Irving W. Trimbel and Elizabeth M. Davis Trimbel. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband Daniel Miller, and her husband Donald Durand. She is survived by brother Michael L. Trimbel (Marcie), of Danville, California; daughters Mary Patricia Gisler (Mark) of West Des Moines IA, Katherine Ann Carlson (Brooks) of Clinton, MI, Aileen Frances Taylor (J. Matt) of Erlanger, KY, and Rita Susan Heimes (Gene Landry) of Portland, ME. Pat is also survived by her former husband of 20 years and the father of her daughters, Kenneth A. Heimes. As well, she leaves behind sixteen cherished grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames. A luncheon will follow the service.
