June 1, 1922 - December 30, 2019
KALONA - Ireta June Gingerich was born June 1, 1922 in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Omer and Ollie (Miller) Gingerich. She has lived in the Kalona community all of her life. June attended Snake Hollow rural school and graduated from Kalona High School. She was a Certified Dental Assistant and worked at the University of Iowa Dental College for 25 years, retiring in 1987. June was a charter member of Kalona Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. June was a key player of a few women who entertained many groups with singing and comedy through the years. She was a charter member of the Kalona Lioness Club. June served on the Care Review Board and volunteered her time at the Pleasantview Home. June died on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 97 years.
June has no immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Lois Gingerich, and a brother Burdett Gingerich.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 6, 2020, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the South Gingerich Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Iowa City Hospice.
