In loving memory of

ALICE REESE NIELSEN MUIR
October 28, 1919 - January 1, 2020

Alice Reese Nielsen Muir passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of January 1, 2020 having celebrated her 100th birthday in October. She was born in Elwood, Utah on October 28, 1919, the first daughter and third child of Harold and Olive Jensen Reese. She grew up in Bear River City, playing with brothers Milton, Earl, Bill, Stan and Don and two younger sisters, Deon and Helen, whom she adored and would often tend. She loved Bear River City and frequently shared fond memories of her childhood there. She attended Bear River Elementary and graduated from Bear River High School in 1937.
Alice met Robert Nielsen at a dance in Ogden, thinking at the time, that he was Bob's brother Jesse. Contrary to the mix-up, everything worked out for the best, and Alice and Bob were married in Salt Lake City on January 21, 1941. The following year, Bob enlisted in the Army and Alice went to work in Salt Lake City making vacuum tubes for radios that were needed in the war effort. After Bob's service, they were blessed with two sons, Reese in 1944, and John in 1948. Alice stayed at home with her young sons until 1960 when she went to work for Doctor Dean L. Bunderson. She enjoyed the job, her co-workers and the many people she met there. At home, Alice was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed keeping a tidy and orderly house. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid reader and could carry on a knowledgeable conversation with anyone and on most any subject. Most importantly, however, was her family and her very close friends. Alice's marriage to Bob lasted 48 years until he passed away after a lengthy illness and surgeries.
In 1990, Alice married Max Muir who had lost his spouse as well. Together they spent the next 20 years attending concerts and plays, traveling and enjoying their now extended family. Max passed when Alice was ninety. At her passing, Alice was a resident of Gables Assisted Living in Brigham City, Utah. We extend our appreciation to Dr. John Markeson, the Gables staff and to Bristol Hospice for their love and care of Mom during the final stages of life.
Alice is survived by her two sons, Reese (Judy) Nielsen, and John (Lynda) Nielsen both of Perry, Utah and their families (6 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren). She is also survived by two sisters Deon Nielson and Helen Weckler and two brothers Stan and Don Reese as well as five step children Ann Marie (Don) Atkinson, Nancy (Chuck) Shaw, Janice (Bruce) Munns, Frank (Cindy) Muir, and Jon (Michelle) Muir.

Services will be held on Saturday, January the 11th as follows: viewing from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South Brigham City, Utah with graveside services to be held immediately following at the Brigham City Cemetery. We express our deepest gratitude to Gillies for their kind help and support as well.

In lieu of flowers please contribute to Primary Children's Medical Center.

"Alice brought warmth, humor, class, and comfort to Dad's office for many, many years. She was a favorite among the patients and staff and I'm grateful she was such a good friend to my Dad. My heart goes out to all her family. She will be missed. Love, Kris Bunderson Purcell "

"I am grateful that my father was able to find Alice after our mother passed away. I still remember I was the last child he asked permission for to marry again and how happy he was when he called Alice and told her we were all fully supportive. She lightened his life and was even willing to support his decision to build them a new home when he was 80 years old. I was also glad she was a willing travel partner with him to go see the world as well as visiting our home several times. She welcomed my wife and our kids into her life with love and open arms. We will all greatly miss her. "

"Alice Reese Nielsen Muir was my very intelligent, beautiful, fun, step mother. She did not start to look like an "older woman" until she was 99 3/4! Her hair had very little gray un it. She still had all of her original teeth. She was always very well groomed and her home was immaculate. She was simply a very classy lady. She loved to read and always had a stack of books in her room to "get through". They were the big, thick, thriller type.I always told her I wanted to be just like her, because the only period of my life I thought I would have time to finally read all the books I have on my shelves, would be after 90, when I would be in a nursing home. She was an amazing woman. I loved her and she loved my dad and all the kids and grandkids he came with and added to- in their twenty years together. Rest in peace and may there be many books in Heaven. Love, Ann Marie Atkinson"
