Janet Yoder
November 1, 1953 - January 5, 2020

IOWA CITY - Janet Susan Yoder was born November 1, 1953 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of the late William and Marjorie (Thompson) Porter. Janet attended Fountain Lake School in Hot Springs, AR before moving to Monmouth, Il where she graduated from Warren High School. Janet married Charles Hanson on August 27, 1976, with whom she had two sons Brandon and Zachary. Charles Hanson passed away on March 7, 2000. On July 21, 2007 Janet married Charles "Chuck" D. Yoder. She lived in Arkansas before moving to Iowa, where she lived in Washington and Iowa City. Janet worked in Dietary at the Washington County Hospital, United Presbyterian Home and University of Iowa Hospital. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs "Copper and Bear". Janet passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Bickford Senior Living in Iowa City following a short illness.
Janet is survived by her husband Chuck of Iowa City; two sons: Brandon (Molly) Hanson of Wapello, Zach Hanson of Tiffin; a step daughter: Brianna Yoder of North Liberty; three grandchildren: Emilee, Linkyn and Zander Hanson; four step grandchildren: Brina, Dayanna, Amarious Yoder, and Marquis Davis: two brothers: Dan Porter of Monmouth, IL, John Porter of Raleigh, NC, two sisters: Patty Ross of Summerville, SC, Mary Ann Weaver of Peoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Hanson, a daughter-in-law Kellie Hanson and her parents-in-law Duane R. and Jeanette Yoder.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, January 10, 2020, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery rural Kalona. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 at Yoder-Powell Funeral in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Janet and her family.
