John Young, Young,

John Richard Young, Sr., age 82, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Born June 12, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Floy Woodul Young and Benjamin Richard Young, he attended Byrd High School, Centenary College, and graduated from Baylor University in 1955 with a degree in Economics. John served as an officer in the United States Air Force until 1965, attaining the rank of Captain. John lived in Houston for the last 40 years and also held a special place in his heart for Lago Vista, TX, where he built a home and enjoyed waterskiing on Lake Travis with his family. He established a distinguished management career with Magnavox and Sony and retired in 1987. John was a proud member, former Elder, and Head Usher of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, and also a member of the Order of the Masons in San Antonio, Texas. John will be especially remembered for his unwavering love and support for his family, his sense of humor, and his love of reading, particularly the book "The Grapes of Wrath." He was a very accomplished pianist and studied under Silvio Scionti at Baylor University. John is survived by son John Richard Young, Jr. (Rick), son Jeffrey Scott Young and wife Debby, daughter Dr. Suzanne Plum-Clark (Missy) and husband Dr. Tracy Clark, daughter Kelly Young Rizzo and husband Brian, grandchildren John Richard Young, III (Tres) and wife Kim, William Joseph Jacob Young (Jake), Cory Lawson Plum, Rachel Adair Young, Jeffrey Scott Young, Jr. (Cody), Randall Blake Young (Blake), Daniel Louis Plum, Michael Manning Clark, and Hanna Suzanne Young. Special thanks to Marisol Gonzalez for her love and care of our father throughout the past year. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
