Daniel Howard Frey passed peacefully in Houston, Texas on March 16th, 2015 at the age of 66. Dan is survived by his mother, Sarah Frey In Lakeland, Florida; wife Shirley; son Jeffrey and grandsons Welsey and Colton in Houston, Texas; brother Wesley and sister Carol in Lakeland, Florida; He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley W. Frey, in July 2004. Dan was born on November 20, 1948 in Staten Island, New York to Wesley and Sarah Frey. He was a happy child, loved family gatherings and hanging out with friends. He was accomplished in school and received advanced training in information technology and business management. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley, while still a teenager in 1970. They were recently able to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary before Dan's passing. After marriage, Dan and Shirley moved to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and Dan began his, what would become, 35-year career with the McDermott International, Inc. family of companies. After five years of marriage, Dan and Shirley welcomed their son Jeffrey into their home and Dan set about teaching Jeff everything he knew, and giving him every opportunity to excel. Dan is remembered as a man filled with kindness, generosity, integrity and drive. An honest businessman, an articulate communicator, a passionate rancher, a loving son, a faithful brother, a completely devoted and utterly in love husband, a needed mentor, best friend, and hero as a dad, and the coolest 'Pap' his grandsons could ever ask for. Dan's motto was "if God can get it through you, God will get it to you" and that was evident to everyone he met. The more he gave away his time, money and resources... the more he was able to give. He was talented in leadership, problem solving, managing people, money matters, risk management, strategic planning and critical thinking. Dan believed that sharing his expertise and providing opportunities for others to learn was the best use of what God gave him. He was a generous, dedicated man who loved his family and helping others. He was passionate about God, and his family. He strived toward excellence in everything he did and put others before his himself every chance he got. A family gathering to remember Dan, officiated by Pastor Morris St. Angelo, was held on Wednesday, March 25th, 11am at First Alliance Church in Lakeland Florida. A reception followed and a dinner was held the following night. A further celebration of Dan's life is scheduled for Thursday, April 16th, 11am at The Vineyard Church of Houston, Houston Texas, with lunch to follow. Pastor Herschel Rosser will officiate.
