In loving memory of

George Sowell
October 28, 2015

Lt. Colonel George Lee Sowell, 53, died on October 28, 2015 in Houston, Texas. George is survived by his loving mother, Elizabeth Lee Sledge Sowell , his sister, Katy Sowell Agarwal, and uncles James Sledge and Webb Sledge of Gadsden, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Sowell. George lived a selfless life, committed to serving others. After growing up in Gadsden and Jacksonville, Alabama, he was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, attending school on an Air Force ROTC Scholarship. George served an honorable career in the US Air Force from 1984 until 2006 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement, George thrived in his work at the Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, HI. He truly enjoyed his time with the Air Force and the Kamehameha Schools in the field of information management. Unfortunately, George was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in 2012. His sister's family, Sandeep, Kristopher, Libby, Elisabeth, and Krishna of Houston, Texas were blessed that he came to live with them and to be closer to his mother while having treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. George had great appreciation for his treatment team at the MDACC Colorectal Clinic under the direction of Dr. Scott Kopetz. In the clinic, Dr. Kopetz , Ryanne Coulson PA, and Shahnaz Gillani RN gave expert care and compassion that was a true lifeline for George during his three years of treatment. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kamehameha Schools in honor of George Sowell. http://www.pauahi.org/giving/.
