Gwendolyn "Gwen" Dalton Darvin, age 86, passed away on July 19, 2016. She was most recently in the care of Abundant Blessings Care Home under the guidance of Ardent Hospice and had her family around her. She was born in North Carolina, the seventh of nine children, grew up in Ashville and lived the past 48 years in Richardson/Plano, Texas. After receiving an associate degree from Ashville-Biltmore Junior College, she entered the United States Marine Corps where she served for three years and met her husband, Richard M. Darvin. She continued to be involved in the Women Marines Association in her retirement years. Upon moving to Richardson, Texas in 1968 she became the second female police officer in the Richardson Police Department where she served until retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard M. Darvin and survived by one remaining brother, Ed Dalton and wife Sharon, her son David Darvin and wife Sherry, daughter Karen Darvin, former daughter in law Martha Ramsey, 5 grandchildren, Eric Darvin and wife Morgan, Danielle Gwendolyn Darvin, Delayna Darvin, Rex Rundgren, Randy Rundgren and 2 great grandchildren, Hadlee Darvin and Brandon Bautista Rundgren. Burial will be at 12:30 pm, Monday, July 25 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery next to her husband with military honors. Services by Distinctive Life Funeral Homes.
