Gloria Barrera Diez-Garcia

Gloria was born to Jose "Joe" Gabriel Barrera and San Juana "Jane or Grandma" Saldana in McAllen, Texas. The family made their roots in San Antonio, where Gloria graduated from Blessed Sacrament Academy in 1950.   She married Air Force sergeant T. Manuel Saenz, and they lived in El Paso, Texas and Oscoda, Michigan. Together they had a daughter, Susan.

Gloria moved to Washington, D.C. in 1974, and later she met her husband of 38 years Angel Diez Garcia. They met at a Spanish grocery store, and went on a first date to McDonald's. They married in 1980, and continued to work in Washington D.C., she in finance and he as a Spanish chef. They retired to Angel's boyhood village, Cremenes, Province of Leon, Spain, in 1993. They moved back to San Antonio in 2016, for health reasons.

Gloria is survived by her beloved husband Angel Diez Garcia, daughter Susan St. John Saenz-Solis and son-in-law Fred Solis; sister Estella Barrera Montgomery of Houston, Texas; nieces Leah Montgomery Borg, Erin Montgomery, Lara (Jim) Montgomery Klukas, and nephew Brian (Katy) Montgomery; sister Irene (Larry) Barrera Gonzales of Edinburg, Texas; nieces Leah Trevino, Laura Lawhorn and Lisa Smith. She is also survived by many grand-nieces, grand-nephews and numerous Gonzales, Alonzo, Leal, Barrera and Gonzalez cousins, and all of her wonderful friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

A Memorial Service and luncheon will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at San Francisco Steak House 10233 Sahara Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78216. All are invited to come and celebrate Gloria's life.

Memorial remembrances in Gloria's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
