In loving memory of

Tommie Jean Hebert

Tommie Jean Hebert, 83, of Seabrook, Texas, passed away on October 24, 2018.

Tommie Jean was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Thomas and Fay Rutherford on March 23, 1935.  She grew up in Beaumont, Texas and attended Lamar University.

While attending Lamar she fell in love with T.A. Hebert and they were married on December 20,1955, in Beaumont, Texas.  They both graduated from Lamar, after spending a few years away from Beaumont while T.A. served in  the US Marine Corps.

Tommie was a devoted mother to their four children as T.A.'s job opportunities took them to Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.  She was a strong Christian who quickly took on the responsibility of leading the nursery school programs in the churches they attended.  In the 1970's Tommie established a preschool in the basement of their home. During that time Tommie discovered the teaching methods of Maria Montessori.

With some influence from Tommie, daughter Melinda took AMI Montessori Training after graduating college.  In 1988, Tommie and Melinda founded Bay Area Montessori House in the Clear Lake area of Houston. Tommie was the school president and administrator.  For 30 years she also guided children through the Bible stories program at the school.

Tommie is the strong Christian heart of her family and the school.  She was honest, loving, and wise.  Children and adults alike sought her calming, thoughtful advice.  She loved them all and they loved her.

Tommie Jean is survived by her loving husband: T.A. Hebert; their children: Melinda Nielsen and husband Eric; Donna Fleming; Joel Hebert and wife Connie;  Jennifer Richards and husband Mark;  grandchildren:  Alyssa Nielsen, Nathan Nielsen and wife Katie; Jay Fleming, Brandi Mondor and husband Matt; Calvin Hebert, Ally Hebert, and Kristen Richards; great-grandchildren: Brianna, Brenyn, Hayden, Lilah, and Ellie; and her siblings, sister Corliss Wall and husband Don, and brother Richard Rutherford and wife Jill.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Church, 3151 E. FM 518, League City, Texas 77573.  Pastor Jan Sattem, officiant.
