In loving memory of

Roy Hall
February 22, 1925 - September 25, 2019

Roy Hall died at home Wednesday night, September 25, 2019, in Pearland, Texas, at the age of 94.

Roy was born February 22, 1925, on the family farm in Mitchell County, Texas, to Rowland W. Hall and Clara Josephine (Fuller) Hall. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas Technological College, now Texas Tech University, in 1945. He retired from Shell Pipeline in 1986, after 42 years.

On May 28, 1960, Roy married Marilyn Rose Patten. They built a home in Braeburn Terrace, a subdivision of Houston, where they raised two sons, Russell and Mark, and one daughter, Carol.

Originally members of South Main Baptist Church, Roy and Marilyn moved their letters to Westbury Baptist Church after the Hillcroft bridge was complete. Roy and Marilyn were active members of Westbury until they flooded in Hurricane Harvey and moved to Pearland, closer to Carol.

Roy was a child of the Depression. He paid for college with blood donations, worked three jobs anyway, sent money home, and graduated in three years. There was only one Consumer Reports subscriber on Imogene Street, Roy, because all the neighbors valued his advice more. If most Shell retirees weighed three cantaloupes at Food City, Roy weighed five. Marilyn marveled once, "I don't think any of you children ever asked us for money." Mother, we knew better.

Roy provided all the necessities and many extras for his family, allowing them to live and grow while feeling blessed and secure. He was a loving husband and father who taught his children the importance of a caring family. His work ethic rubbed off on his children and is strongly present in his grandchildren.

Roy was a Red Raider, and always had time for a Tech football or basketball game. Near the end, he asked only that he live to football season. He made it, even reciting the score to those who doubted he was paying attention.

Roy deeply appreciated Marilyn. You couldn't praise him or his children without a pointed reminder that Marilyn deserved more credit than he did. Devotion had its limits, though, and he would turn off his hearing aid whenever Marilyn played her harmonica.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Robert Ellis Watson, and siblings Medwin Spencer, Earnest F. Hall, Rowland Price Hall, Marvin Frank Hall, and Ralph Hall.

Roy is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Russell Hall and wife Anh-Thuy Nguyen and their children Michael and Sophie, son Mark Hall and wife Janet Tang Hall and their children Melissa and Erika, and daughter Carol Ann Burchfield and husband Russell Burchfield.

A memorial service will be held at Westbury Baptist Church, 10425 Hillcroft St., Houston, Texas 77096, (713) 723-6428, on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Westbury Baptist Church Memorial Fund are welcome. Honorary pallbearers include John Stolzer, Thomas Burke, Enrique Solano, Dung Nguyen, Luan Nguyen, and Tien Nguyen.

Special thanks to those that kept Roy alive and well so long, including Dr. Bhakti Khatri, Dr. Ajith Nair, Inez Hamilton and Liz's Angel of Care Staffing, and the liver and onions at Cleburne's Cafeteria.
