In loving memory of

Janis Berman Rice
January 23, 1945 - November 7, 2019

Janis Berman Rice completed her life's journey Thursday, November 7, 2019.

Non-smoker, avid runner, healthy lifestyle, but 17 months after diagnosis and a determined battle against stage-IV lung cancer, God called her Home.

She was born on January 23,1945 (01/23/45) in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Theodore and Mildred Laplace Berman; survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim Rice; son and grandson, James (Dylan), daughters and granddaughters, Janelle (Brooke) and Julie (Brittany), and great-granddaughters, Bella and Baylee; sisters, Carol Clark (Houston) and Katherine Wuntch (Dallas), brother, Bob Berman (San Pedro, CA); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jan graduated from Marian High School in Houston, Class of 1963.  Her passions were lifelong learning and applying that knowledge to help others.  She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Education from the University of Houston, taught at Reagan High School, and later attended the University of Denver, graduating from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.

After gaining the required clinical experience, she sat for and passed state exams and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Oregon and Texas.  Her private mental health practice helped clients in the Houston area for 30 years.

Her interests included reading, running (20-year daily runner plus marathons / relays), downhill skiing, RV travel throughout the United States, National Parks, and quilting.

She requested a private family memorial service, and donations in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.

"Janis was a light in my life. I?ve been thinking about her so much and I?m so sad to find this out. Our last brunch together was just a few weeks before she passed. I admired her so very much."
