Sabina Handel
March 23, 1923 - March 14, 2015
Sabina was born to Samuel and Elsie Seigman in Toledo Ohio. She was the middle child of 4 children. She was a child of the Depression, planting a Victory garden and playing trumpet in the high school marching band. At 25 she left Toledo for adventures in the big city of Chicago. Sabina met Jack Kamen and they married in 1950. First daughter was Gayle and 2nd daughter was Carol. Jack and Sabina joined forces and opened 2 restaurants in Chicago which they owned and operated for over 20 years. Jack died and left Sabina a young widow at 45. She persevered and sent her girls to college and shortly after they graduated, she followed them down to Texas. She worked for Kaplan Testing and hosted her Bat Mitzvah at age 61. She remarried in her 70s to Phil Handel. They traveled together and had 18 good years. She is the proud grandmother of her first grandson, Howie Pock, her grandaughter Jackie Pock Gibbons and her husband Brandon. She loved spending time with Jennifer and Melanie Weinstein who came to her later in her life. She maintained her good health by working out and her spiritual health by attending Beth Yeshurun, Beth Israel and Congregation Beth El. Sabina will be celebrated and missed by her loving daughters Gayle Kamen Weinstein and Carol Kamen Pock, son in laws, Larry Weinstein and Les Pock. Sabina was truly a woman of valor to all who knew and loved her. Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery.
