Jack Howard Alter was born August 21, 1927, in New York City to Mathilda and Samuel Alter. Shirley Wesler Alter was born October 17, 1929, in Houston, Texas to Bertha and Nate Wesler. Shirley and Jack met at the University of Texas, and subsequently married on December 30, 1951. They are survived by their loving children: Rory and Laura; Kevin and Robin; and Leslie. They have five wonderful grandchildren whom they doted on with extreme pride and love: Lindsey, Andrew, Steffannie, Melissa, and Matthew.
Jack is survived by his "baby" sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Arthur Goldstein; his nephew and nieces Steven and Jennifer Goldstein; Marcia Duggan; and Nancy Goldstein; and their children Joshua, Becky, and Benjamin Goldstein; Samantha and Jeffrey Duggan. Shirley is survived by her aunt Anne Lichtenstein and first cousins Wenda Kolodny and Donna Alwais. Both are survived by numerous extended family members and devoted friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at 1:00 pm, at Congregation Beth Yeshurun. Burial followed at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery.
