In loving memory of

Carol Freedenthal
May 5, 1935 - July 19, 2015

Carol Freedenthal - our beloved husband, father, and grandfather - died peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Carol was born on May 5, 1935, in Asheville, North Carolina, to Leiber and Sarah Freedenthal. Carol graduated from Henry Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech University and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. He also served as an officer in the United States Army.

After graduation, Carol moved to St. Louis, Missouri, for a job. There, Carol met his wife-to-be, Beverly Tzinberg, on a blind date. Beverly and Carol married in St. Louis on August 13, 1961. Their first daughter, Robyn, was born in 1962. Shortly after Robyn's arrival, the family moved to Cheshire, Connecticut for Carol's new job. There, Beverly and Carol had two more daughters - Shelly in 1963 and Stacey in 1967. In 1968, the family moved to Houston, where Beverly and Carol lived ever since.

Carol was a devoted husband to Beverly for nearly 54 years. Carol was deeply involved in his daughters' lives while they were growing up in Houston, including coaching their softball teams, attending Indian Princess events, and accompanying them on numerous bike rides and afternoons at the JCC pool.

Carol also had a distinguished career. He held several positions in the chemical and oil & gas industries that allowed him to travel all over the United States and to distant parts of the world. Carol ultimately began an energy consulting firm called Jofree Corp. with a partner in the late 1980s. He was retained as an expert witness in many cases and frequently wrote and spoke about natural gas issues.

In recent years, Carol and Beverly made many wonderful memories with their six grandchildren who live in Dallas, Denver, and Los Angeles. Carol loved to play with his grandchildren when they were young and, most recently, he greatly enjoyed exchanging text messages and arguing about politics with them.

Carol was predeceased by his parents, Sarah and Leiber Freedenthal, and his son-in-law, Jim Hughey. Carol is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Beverly Freedenthal, and his very fortunate daughters, Robyn Galerston (and her husband Bill Galerston) of Dallas, Texas; Shelly Freedenthal of South Pasadena, California; and Stacey Freedenthal (and her husband Pete Gutierrez) of Denver, Colorado. Carol also is survived by his adored grandchildren, Kyle and Madison Galerston; David, Sarah, and Jonathan Hughey; and Ian Gutierrez; and by his sister, Evelyn Lea Burns. Carol also is survived by Lucy, beloved cat of Beverly and Carol.

A memorial service for Carol is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at The Gordon Chapel at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd., Houston, Texas 77096.

Carol's family would like to thank their friends, relatives, and communities for all of the love and support that they have given to the family at this time!
