In loving memory of

Marie Schwartzberg
May 30, 1922 - August 26, 2015

Marie was born in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Louis and Lucette Jones, May 30, 1922. She lived the majority of her growing up years in New Orleans and moved to Houston after graduating, Sophie B. Wright high school. She started her life in Houston just before WWII, where she met the love of her life,  Gene Schwartzberg and they were married by Rabbi  Henry Cohen in Galveston where Gene was stationed serving the United States Army. After the war, they moved to Houston, to raise their 4 children. Marie was an active fifties Mom, always at little league practices, Cub Scout events, room mother at her children's schools and chief carpooler. Marie was an avid gardener with a special green thumb. She joined her husband's side for over 27 years, when he went in business for himself and worked with him as they grew Gene's Tailors into 3 stores, one of the first in the Galleria, Town and Country and the original location in Palms Center.   She and her husband loved to travel, spend time together on family outings, vacations, dinners, and barbeques with their growing family.   Upon Gene's death, Marie continued to work in the retail industry until she was 80 years old. She lived independently until 85, and moved into The Plaza at the Buckingham where she became President of the resident association and was very active in initiating changes that were needed at her new home and making many new friends along the way. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Gene Schwartzberg, parents, Louis and Lucette Jones, Brother David N. Jones, and her son Kenny Paul Schwartzberg. Her remaining family includes: Carol and J. Desey Desenberg; Leslie J. and Melanie Schwartzberg, and Lynn and Kenneth Krasny. Marie adored her adult Grandchildren that included the following: Gail and Enrique Cervantes, Louis and Caryn Schwartzberg, Todd Lorberbaum and fiancée' Julie Morris, Jill Krasny and her fiancé' Seth Fiegerman, and Randi Krasny. The light of her eyes for many years, was the pleasure she had watching her Great Grandchildren, Mia and Lila Schwartzberg and Graiden Miller, coming into her life to add so much fullness. Survived by sister-in -law Sally Schwartzberg, cousins Allen and Inga Leon who were so special to Marie. Special thanks to the entire staff of The Plaza at the Buckingham and Ms. Liz George and Kate her special angel, who all made aging so much fun. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, at 1:00pm, at Emanu El Memorial Park, Kagan Rudy Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to your favorite charity.
