In loving memory of

Sophie Nussenblatt
July 7, 1916 - September 18, 2015

Sophie Nussenblatt, beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend to all passed away September 18, 2015 at the age of 99.
Sophie will always remembered for her beautiful blue twinkling eyes, her warm smile, her matching outfits every day, her love for Wendy's Frosties, her optimism about almost everything and her unconditional love and support.  Her home was always open to all, where she would treat every guest as family.  And let's not forget her famous pancakes and cheese cake!

Sophie was born on July 7, 1916 in Montreal, Canada and at the age of 7 moved with her family to Galveston, Texas.  After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin she spent her adult life as a school teacher and school librarian.  She was married to the love of her life for 61 years, Joe Nussenblatt, and raised their two boys, Michael and Alan.  Sophie loved living in Galveston and was one of its greatest ambassadors.  Always ready to serve, Sophie was very active in Delta Kappa Gamma, a teaching honor society, ushering at The Grand Opera House, Hadassah and B'nai Brith Women.

Sophie is survived by her son Michael and wife Cheryl; son Alan and wife Judy; grandchildren Roger and wife Sherri, Courtney, Eric and Jill; great-grandchildren Brendan and Brooke; her loving sister-in-law Clara Nussenblatt; and very special nieces and nephews, Eva Michele, Francine, Shelley, Tracey, Judith Lynn, Cynthia, David and Steve, all of whom made her last days happier and easier.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Joe Nussenblatt; her parents Rose and Michael Zalichin; sister Minnie Jones; brothers-in-laws Seymour and Sam Nussenblatt; and sister-in-law Felice Nussenblatt.

The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Yolanda, Ame, Ana, Juanita and LaVernon for their dedication and special care given to Sophie.  The family is truly grateful to them.
